AI frame-by-frame processing
Once your MP4 is uploaded, the AI analyzes each frame individually. It identifies the foreground subject — person, product, object, or animated element — and separates it from the background across the full duration of the video. There is no manual selection, no color-keying setup, and no frame-by-frame editing required on your end.
Processing time depends on video length and file size. Larger or longer MP4 files take more time to process. The tool shows processing progress, and results remain available for retrieval after the session — you do not need to keep the browser tab open while it runs.

Download as MOV with transparent background

MP4 Background Remover: Quality & Format Settings
Output format: MOV with alpha channel
The transparent video output is a MOV file. MOV is the standard container format for alpha channel video across professional editing tools. When you import this file into a compatible editor, the subject plays over full transparency — you can place any background behind it.
⚠️ Important: Not all players show transparent video correctly
Some media players, browser video players, and lower-end video editors do not support the alpha channel. If you open the MOV file in one of these and see a black background, the transparency is still there — the player simply cannot render it. Use a compatible video editing application to see and work with the actual transparent result.

Quality tips for best results
The AI subject detection works best when the subject is visually distinct from the background. These conditions help the model produce cleaner edges:
Good lighting:
Even, consistent lighting on the subject makes edges sharper. Avoid harsh shadows that spill onto the background or background light that bleeds onto the subject.
Contrast between subject and background:
A subject that shares color or tone with the background creates harder segmentation decisions. If your subject and background are similar in color, results may require cleanup.
Steady or predictable motion:
Fast-moving subjects, motion blur, or rapid changes in subject position across frames can reduce edge accuracy at high-speed moments.
Clean background in the source:
The AI does not require a controlled background, but a less busy background (plain wall, simple interior) produces more consistent results than a highly textured or moving background.
Avoid live streaming use:
Cutout.Pro's video background remover processes recorded files only. Live streaming is not supported.

Why MP4 is the most practical input
MP4 is the default export format from virtually every camera, smartphone, screen recorder, and video editing application. If you shot on an iPhone, Android device, mirrorless camera, DSLR, or recorded your screen, your file is almost certainly an MP4. You can upload it directly without converting.
If you have footage in a format not listed above — AVI, MKV, FLV, WMV — convert it to MP4 first using any free video converter before uploading. The AI processes the visual content, not the container format, so a converted MP4 produces the same result as an original recording.
Output is always MOV
Regardless of the input format, the transparent background output is always a MOV file with an alpha channel. If your delivery pipeline requires a different output format — MP4 with transparency (HEVC alpha), WebM with alpha, or another container — convert the MOV output using a video conversion tool after downloading.
Note: Standard MP4 (H.264) does not support transparency. Transparent video must use a codec that carries an alpha channel. MOV with ProRes or Animation codec is the standard choice for professional video workflows, which is why Cutout.Pro outputs MOV.
